My Dad
By: Robbe Zappa
Dedicated to my mentor, my hero, and my father.
When I was a young boy, you took me by the hand.
You showed me how the world works, you taught me to be a man.
You gave to me a role model, of how one should respect.
People, places, guns and things, you never took a rest.
Now as the story goes, we made it through my youth.
Sometimes were rough, somethings were tough, but you helped me make it through.
REFRAIN:
So here's to you my dad, my one and only dad.
A happy birthday from your only son.
So here's to you my pop, my one and only pop.
Here's to you my father and my friend.
I remember making rocket ships in our house on 16th Ave.
All those Sunday Packer games and oh the words you had!
I remember Christmas days, together putting toys.
The freezing cold midwestern air, snowing winter joy.
I remember that magic push you gave, when I learned to ride a bike.
And helping me get back up, when my balance went on strike.
REFRAIN
I remember all those hockey games you stood right by my side.
Coaching me to understand, that hard work leads to pride.
Teaching me to realize that success is measured within.
That I could do anything, if I used some discipline.
You gave to me the courage, to make it on my own.
The unrelentless desire, to achieve all my goals.

BRIDGE:
I remember all those late nights, sneaking by your door.
Your ears were always open, even if you snored.
I knew the gig was up, when six AM came calling.
"It's time to get up and work", let's get rolling!
(mandolin solo)
Now the years have passed us by, I also have a son.
I pray that I can be to him, all that you've begun.
I look at you and see a man, who holds within his soul.
A compassion that is genuine, honesty so bold.
A heart full of generousity, that runs so very deep.
A dad who's son is more than proud, an inspiration I will keep.
Here's to you my dad, my mentor, father and friend.
I dedicate this song to you, "Happy Birthday" I extend!!
